Lately I've been watching a lot of shows on Animal Planet and one of the episodes was truly amazing! I've always loved dolphins and knew they were gentle towards humans but I didn't know to what extent how intellectual they really are.
The show was about a group of lifeguards swimming off the coast of New Zealand and a pod of dolphins came to their rescue when a great white shark was swimming underneath them. The dolphins bunched the four swimmers together by circling about 4-8 centimetres from them, and slapping the water with their tails for about 40 minutes. At first the lifeguards had no idea what was going on and they thought the dolphins were going to attack them but then the oldest guy drifted from the group and realized that a shark was near and the dolphins were there to help them.
Below is a clip (the picture is poor quality but that's the only video on YouTube that I could find) from the show.
The show had a happy ending ~ nobody was hurt and if it wasn't for the dolphins saving the lifeguards, who knew what could have happened!
One of the things I would love to do in my lifetime is to swim with dolphins :)! Just not in the ocean ;)! I used to love SEAWORLD but those f@ckers took it away from the location here in Ohio.
